Fact Check: Congressional Republicans Have Called for the Impeachment of Judges Blocking Trump's Actions

What We Know

In recent months, there has been a notable push from Congressional Republicans to respond to judicial rulings that have blocked various actions taken by President Donald Trump. Reports indicate that House GOP leaders are considering multiple strategies, including proposals to limit the judiciary's power, cut funding, and even impeach judges who have issued rulings unfavorable to the Trump administration (AP News).

Specifically, House Republicans have expressed frustration over judges blocking Trump's policies, with at least five judges having issued injunctions against his administration's actions (Reuters). In a high-profile case, Judge James E. Boasberg ordered the reversal of deportations, prompting Trump to call for his impeachment (AP News).

While some Republican lawmakers have suggested impeachment as a potential course of action, top leaders have not fully endorsed this extreme measure. For instance, Senate Majority Leader John Thune has advised against impeachment, suggesting that the judicial process should be allowed to play out (AP News).

Analysis

The claim that Congressional Republicans have called for the impeachment of judges is partially true. There is indeed a movement among some House Republicans to consider impeachment as a response to judicial decisions that they view as obstructive to Trump's agenda. Reports from various sources indicate that there are discussions and proposals aimed at curtailing judges' powers, particularly regarding nationwide injunctions (Washington Post, New York Times).

However, it is important to note that while individual members of Congress have proposed impeachment, there is a lack of unified support from top Republican leaders for such actions. For example, Chief Justice John Roberts has publicly stated that impeachment is not an appropriate response to judicial disagreements, reflecting a broader concern about the implications of such actions on judicial independence (AP News).

Additionally, the context of these discussions is critical. The Republican Party, while expressing dissatisfaction with judicial rulings, is also aware of the constitutional implications of pursuing impeachment against judges, which is a rare and serious action. The lack of support from Senate leadership further complicates the likelihood of any impeachment efforts being realized (AP News, Axios).

Conclusion

The verdict on the claim that "Congressional Republicans have called for the impeachment of judges blocking Trump's actions" is Partially True. While there are indeed calls from some Republican lawmakers for impeachment and other measures to limit judicial power, this sentiment is not universally supported among Republican leadership, and actual impeachment efforts remain uncertain and unlikely. The situation reflects ongoing tensions between the executive branch and the judiciary, particularly in the context of Trump's administration.

Fact Check: I wonder how loud it’ll get if Trump could pull this off. It will be interesting.

President Trump is asking everyone to share this, in three days, most people in the United States will have seen the message. This is an idea that should be passed around, regardless of political party.

The TRUMP Rules: Congressional Reform Act of 2017

1. No Tenure / No Pension. A Congressman/woman collects a salary while in office and receives no pay when they're out of office. And no more perks go with them.

2. Congress (past, present, & future) participates in Social Security. All funds in the Congressional retirement fund move to the Social Security system immediately. All future funds flow into the Social Security system, and Congress participates with the American people. It may not be used for any other purpose.

3. Congress must purchase their own retirement plan, just as ALL Americans do.

4. Congress will no longer vote themselves a pay raise. Congressional pay will rise by the lower of CPI or 3%.

5. Congress loses their current health care system and participates in the same health care system as the American people.

6. Congress must equally abide by all laws they impose on the American people (i.e. NO MORE INSIDER TRADING!!!).

7. All contracts with past and present Congressmen/women are void. The American people did not make this contract with Congressmen/women. Congress made all these contracts by and for themselves.

Serving in Congress is an honor and privilege, NOT a career. The Founding Fathers envisioned citizen legislators should serve their term(s), then go home and go back to work … not get all kinds of freebies. Term limits and treat them like a regular citizen!
