Are Zhu Zhu Pets Discontinued?

The claim that "Zhu Zhu Pets are discontinued" has surfaced in various discussions, particularly in light of recent developments regarding the toy line. Zhu Zhu Pets, which are motorized toy hamsters that gained immense popularity in the late 2000s, have seen a tumultuous history of discontinuation and revival. This article examines the current status of Zhu Zhu Pets, particularly focusing on their discontinuation and the recent announcements regarding their return.

What We Know

  1. History of Discontinuation: Zhu Zhu Pets were initially launched in 2009 and became a significant toy trend. However, they were discontinued in 2018 due to declining sales and the end of an associated animated series 19.

  2. Trademark Filing and Revival: In May 2023, Cepia LLC, the company behind Zhu Zhu Pets, filed a trademark for "ZhuZhu," indicating plans for a revival. This was followed by a video uploaded in September 2023 showcasing a new line of Zhu Zhu Pets set to be released in 2024, named "Zhu Zhu Aquarium" 134.

  3. Official Sources: The official Zhu Zhu Pets website was reportedly blank as of June 2023, suggesting a shift in focus towards the upcoming product line 8.

  4. Community and Media Reports: Various toy and media outlets have reported on the anticipated return of Zhu Zhu Pets, highlighting features reminiscent of the original toys, such as unique sounds and movement patterns 410.

Analysis

Source Evaluation

  • Wikipedia: The Wikipedia entry on Zhu Zhu Pets provides a comprehensive overview of the brand's history and recent developments. However, Wikipedia can be edited by anyone, which may lead to inaccuracies. It is essential to cross-reference the information with more reliable sources 1.

  • Official ZhuZhu Pets Wiki: This source is a fan-driven platform that may contain useful information but could also reflect biases based on the community's enthusiasm for the brand. The reliability of this source is questionable as it may not adhere to strict fact-checking standards 35.

  • Toyologist: This article presents a positive perspective on the return of Zhu Zhu Pets, emphasizing nostalgic features. While it provides specific details about the new product line, it may have a promotional bias, as it is focused on toy reviews and industry news 4.

  • Sage-Advices: This source discusses the history of Zhu Zhu Pets and their discontinuation but lacks detailed citations or references to primary sources, which raises questions about its reliability 10.

Conflicts of Interest

The sources discussing the revival of Zhu Zhu Pets, particularly those from toy review sites, may have a vested interest in promoting the brand due to potential partnerships or advertising relationships with toy manufacturers. This could lead to biased reporting that emphasizes positive aspects while downplaying challenges or controversies.

Methodology and Evidence

The claims regarding the discontinuation and revival of Zhu Zhu Pets are supported by trademark filings and announcements from Cepia LLC. However, the exact timeline and details of the product launch remain unclear. Additional information, such as sales data or consumer interest surveys, would provide a more comprehensive understanding of the brand's current status.

Conclusion

Verdict: Mostly False

The assertion that "Zhu Zhu Pets are discontinued" is mostly false. While it is true that Zhu Zhu Pets were discontinued in 2018, recent developments indicate a potential revival, with trademark filings and announcements for new products planned for 2024. The evidence supporting the revival includes a trademark application and promotional materials, but the lack of detailed information about the product launch and the reliance on sources that may have biases introduces uncertainty.

It is important to note that while the brand has faced discontinuation in the past, the current status is more complex, involving both a history of discontinuation and a potential return to the market. The evidence available does not definitively confirm the toys' discontinuation status as of now, but rather suggests that they may be making a comeback.

Readers should remain cautious and critically evaluate information regarding Zhu Zhu Pets, as the situation continues to evolve and may be influenced by marketing strategies and consumer interest.

Fact Check: Paul Krugman Paul Krugman We’re All Rats Now Time to take a stand, again, against racism Paul Krugman Jun 30, 2025 Zohran Mamdani’s upset victory in New York’s Democratic primary has created panic in MAGAland. Stephen Miller, the architect of Donald Trump’s deportation policies, waxed apocalyptic: Scott Bessent, the Treasury secretary, declared that New York is about to turn into “Caracas on the Hudson.” And Sen. Tommy Tuberville of Alabama basically declared New York’s voters subhuman, saying: These inner-city rats, they live off the federal government. And that’s one reason we’re $37 trillion in debt. And it’s time we find these rats and we send them back home, that are living off the American taxpayers that are working very hard every week to pay taxes. These reactions are vile, and they’re also dishonest. Whatever these men may claim, it’s all about bigotry. Miller isn’t concerned about the state of New York “society.” What bothers him is the idea of nonwhite people having political power. Bessent isn’t really deeply worried about Zamdani’s economic ideas. But he feels free, maybe even obliged, to slander a foreign-born Muslim with language he would never use about a white Christian politician, even if that politician were (like some of his colleagues in the Trump administration) a total crackpot. And while Tuberville stands out even within his caucus as an ignorant fool, his willingness to use dehumanizing language about millions of people shows that raw racism is rapidly becoming mainstream in American politics. Remember, during the campaign both Trump and JD Vance amplified the slanders about Haitians eating pets. And now that they’re in office, you can see the resurgence of raw racism all across Trump administration policies, large and small. You can see it, for example, in the cuts at the National Institutes of Health, which are so tilted against racial minorities that a federal judge — one appointed by Ronald Reagan! — declared I’ve never seen a record where racial discrimination was so palpable. I’ve sat on this bench now for 40 years. I’ve never seen government racial discrimination like this. You can see it in the renaming of military bases after Confederate generals — that is, traitors who fought for slavery. You can even see it in a change in the military’s shaving policy that is clearly custom-designed to drive Black men — who account for around a quarter of the Army’s new recruits — out of the service. So racism and bigotry are back, big time. Who’s safe? Nobody. Are you a legal immigrant? Well, the Supreme Court just allowed Trump to summarily strip half a million U.S. residents of that status, and only a fool would imagine that this is the end of the story. Anyway, when masked men who claim to be ICE agents but refuse to show identification are grabbing people off the streets because they think those people look illegal, does legal status even matter? Does it even matter if you’re a U.S. citizen? And the One Big Beautiful Bill Act is set to massively increase ICE’s funding — basically setting up a huge national secret police force. Now, maybe you imagine that you yourself won’t suffer from this new reign of bigotry and imagine that everyone you care about is similarly safe. But if that’s what you think, you’re likely to face a rude awakening. I personally don’t have any illusions of safety. Yes, I’m a native-born white citizen. But my wife and her family are Black, and some of my friends and relatives are foreign-born U.S. citizens. Furthermore, I’m Jewish, and anyone who knows their history realizes that whenever right-wing bigotry is on the ascendant, we’re always next in line. Are there really people out there naïve enough to believe MAGA’s claims to be against antisemitism, who can’t see the transparent cynicism and dishonesty? The fact is that the Trump administration already contains a number of figures with strong ties to antisemitic extremists. The Great Replacement Theory, which has de facto become part of MAGA’s ideology, doesn’t just say that there’s a conspiracy to replace whites with people of color; it says that it’s a Jewish conspiracy. So I’m definitely scared of what the many antisemites inside or with close ties to the Trump administration may eventually do. And no, I’m not frightened at all by the prospect that New York may soon have a somewhat leftist Muslim mayor. Anyway, my personal fears are beside the point. Everyone who cares about keeping America America needs to take a stand against the resurgence of bigotry. Because the truth is that we’re all rats now.
